20 Years On: Celebrating Charlton Women's Historic FA Cup Triumph

FA Cup winners 2005

Today marks a landmark moment in Charlton Athletic Women’s history — the 20th anniversary of the club’s iconic FA Cup triumph at the Boleyn Ground.

On May 2nd, 2005, Charlton lifted the most prestigious trophy in English women’s domestic football, beating Everton 1-0 in a hard-fought final. A second-half strike from Eniola Aluko proved decisive, capping off a standout team performance for the Addicks.

Managed by Keith Boanas and captained by Casey Stoney, the squad was packed with talent - including none other than current Charlton Women Head Coach Karen Hills, who played in midfield that day.

The 2005 triumph marked the pinnacle of a golden era for Charlton, who reached three FA Cup finals in four years and were consistently one of the top teams in the country. The victory remains a defining moment in the club’s history and a powerful reminder of its rich legacy in the women’s game.

As Hills leads the current side in the Barclays Women’s Championship, the connection between past and present couldn’t be clearer. Her journey from player to manager underlines the deep-rooted passion and commitment that continues to drive the club forward.
