Karoy Anderson is enjoying the challenge of Championship football and is making the most of every opportunity that comes his way.
The 21-year-old reflected on what has been an emotional week for the football club following the passing of Norman Barker, one of the Addicks' most loyal and recognisable faces.
"It was a difficult weekend, but we've all banded together with the fanbase as one in this difficult period," said Anderson. "There's been a real sense of togetherness."
Anderson was introduced at half-time during Tuesday's game against Middlesbrough and was praised by Nathan Jones for his impact.
"Tuesday was a game of two halves," the midfielder explained. "In the second half we really went after them and we made it difficult for them to play against us. We hope to take that into the next game and start like that.
“The step up to Championship has been difficult. It's been different, but these are the levels you want to test yourself at. I'm glad to have got the opportunity to come on to the pitch and make a difference.
"Saturday is all about us and what we can do. We want to take the game to Birmingham and go and get a result. As much as they're a good team with good home form, we want to go there and change that.”
Monday's FA Cup third round draw handed Charlton a home tie against Premier League side Chelsea, which will be played on Saturday, January 10th (KO 8pm GMT), live on TNT Sports 1 and discovery+.
"It’s exciting, you always want to test yourself against bigger clubs," Anderson said. "It will be an exciting time, especially for the fanbase, and hopefully we can give them a performance that they can be proud of."
