Follis: "I'm happy to be back"

Emma Follis

Emma Follis reflects on her return to the side having been sidelined since September, as well as offering her thoughts on the Bristol City clash this Sunday in the Continental Cup.

The forward featured in the Addicks’ 2-1 triumph on the road against Crystal Palace last weekend, the 30-year-old entered the fray just minutes before the hour mark:

“It felt good, injuries aren’t ideal. Eight weeks out and it has been mentally more tough, to get back out there again on a nice big pitch like that and to get the win was great. The circumstances in the game meant we were under the cosh a little bit, we were having to defend quite hard. I'm happy to be back and happy to be back in training and helping the girls to get points.

Follis suffered her setback in Charlton’s comprehensive 3-0 victory over Birmingham at the Valley back in September:

“My goal is to stay fit, from now on it is important that I do the rest of the season fully and get fit. Then to be able to fully contribute to the team, goals, assists and creating situations where we can be good on the ball and try to keep composure within the team. Use my experience and try to push as far as we can up the table.

Karen Hills’ side will be seeking revenge on Sunday, with Bristol City’s last visit to the Oakwood resulting in a 2-0 victory for the visitors as Hayles and Morgan netted for the Robins on October, 30th.

Follis’ last-gasp header helped secure the Addicks a win over Bristol City back in October 2021 at The Oakwood, she claimed that it will be a tough fixture but they must focus on building on the Crystal Palace victory.

“That is probably one of the only headers I have ever scored, I don’t think anyone is letting me forget it which is quite nice. Bristol City are a very good team, one of the favourites this year in the league. They played well when they came to us last time so we want to get one back over them and take the competition seriously. We will try to improve on our performance against Crystal Palace and go for the win."
