Garner provides positive Aneke update

Ben Garner hopes to welcome Chuks Aneke back to his matchday squad for Tuesday's game against Exeter City at The Valley.

Aneke resumed full training at Sparrows Lane on Thursday having been sidelined with a calf injury sustained during pre-season.

"Chuks is close now," revealed Garner. "He returned to full training for the first time yesterday which was great. There's been no reaction and we'll see how he is this morning.

"My hope is that he can be involved against Exeter on Tuesday night," he added. "He has another two or three days and if he comes through training with no issues then he will be back in the squad on Tuesday hopefully."

The manager was unable to provide such positive news on Diallang Jaiyesimi, who was forced off after 43 minutes at Colchester in midweek following a robust challenge.

"He's got damage to the ankle," Garner said. "He's going to be in a protective boot for a good couple of weeks and then we'll have to rehab from there.

"I'm disappointed for DJ because I thought he came on and had a good impact on Saturday and I thought he played really well up until that point on Tuesday night. We're disappointed for him but as always we'll look to bring him back fitter, stronger and more positive.

"We'll get him back as quick as we can. I never like to put a timeframe on but certainly a period of weeks," he added.

Meanwhile, academy graduate Aaron Henry is progressing well following a knee injury picked up playing for Hamza Serrar's U21s.

"It's not a serious injury for Aaron," explained Garner. "It was quite a minor strain which we're pleased about.

"I would hope that he'll be back by the end of this month - that will be the target for us. It's certainly not long-term, he's in good spirits and he's got on with his rehab really well."
