Everyone at Charlton Athletic is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former player Jorge Costa at the age of 53.
Affectionately known amongst the fanbase as The Tank, Costa joined the club on loan from FC Porto during the 2001/02 Premier League campaign and, despite only featuring 26 times across all competitions, is widely regarded as one of the finest centre-backs to represent the Addicks.
Steve Brown, Chair of the Ex-Players' Association, said: "It is devastating news. To hear of a life taken at 53 is never nice to hear, but he’s a former teammate who had such a great standing in the game and captained a Champions League winning side. He was loved at Charlton, a man mountain of a player and a great guy too. Hearing of his passing is just incredibly sad and a reminder of just how precious life is."
The thoughts of all at Charlton Athletic are with Jorge's family and friends at this difficult time.
