Konsa and Gomez named in England’s Euro 2024 squad

Charlton Athletic academy graduates Ezri Konsa and Joe Gomez have  been named in Gareth Southgate’s 26-man England squad for the 2024 European Championships.

Both enjoyed long stints in the club’s esteemed academy, with Konsa joining at 11 years old and Gomez at just 10.

Konsa earned 86 first-team appearances for the Addicks before moving to Brentford in the summer of 2018, while Gomez, who made his debut for Charlton’s U18s aged just 13, made 24 senior appearances during an impressive breakthrough season which saw him named as the club’s Young Player of the Year. He subsequently joined Premier League side Liverpool in June 2015.

Konsa, who won the 2017 World Cup with England U20s and the 2018 Toulon Tournament with the U21s, made his Three Lions debut against Brazil in March 2024, while Gomez received his first international cap in England’s 0-0 draw with Germany in November 2017.

Gomez has represented England at every level and, like Konsa, has enjoyed previous success at youth level having lifted the 2014 European Championship title with England U17s in Malta.

The Three Lions’ group includes Serbia, Denmark and Slovenia, and Southgate’s side will look to better their European Championships run in 2020, when they lost on penalties to Italy in the showpiece final at Wembley.

Congratulations, Ezri and Joe!
