MATCH PREVIEW | Charlton v Durham

TEAM NEWS

The Addicks return to The Oakwood this Sunday following back-to-back wins in the Championship, as they welcome Durham at an earlier KO of 12pm.

Karen Hills’ side proved their dominance last weekend in a comfortable 2-0 victory away
to London City Lionesses. After a positive start for the Addicks, Angela Addison’s deflected strike from the left side hit the back of the net and gave Charlton a deserved lead in the 31st minute. Just 10 minutes later, Carla Humphrey’s free kick near the corner flag glided straight into the net, doubling Charlton’s lead heading into half-time. Although there were a few chances from

the home side, it was not enough to break Charlton’s dominance who left Dartford with maximum points.

The win now sees Charlton sit 5th in the Barclays Women’s Championship table.

THE OPPOSITION

Claire Ditchburn’s side head into this weekend’s proceedings having only won two games this season so far, with their previous game at home ending in defeat to Reading. The Wildcats had some vital chances throughout the game with Mollie Lambert’s strike passing the near-post and Reading’s Emily Orman clawing away Saoirse Noonan’s shot on goal.

Despite the chances, Reading switched gears in the second half with Freya Gregory scoring her first goal for the club in the 63rd minute, and Amelia Elwood securing the win in stoppage time.

Durham now sit 6th in the Championship table, two points behind Charlton in 5th.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

This will be the 11th meeting between the two sides, with the last fixture seeing Charlton put two past Durham in the Championship back in April this year. Melissa Johnson stepped up to the spot in the 17th minute to put Charlton ahead, and Angela Addison helped secure the win for the Addicks in the 70th minute.

The last time Durham saw victory against Charlton was back in September 2021, with goals from Katherine Hill in the opening minutes of the game, and a 54th minute penalty from Beth Hepple.
