Charlton

Karen Hills’ side are back at The Valley this Sunday, taking on Sunderland in the Barclays Women’s Championship (KO 12pm GMT).

The Addicks head into the clash off the back of a 2-0 triumph away to Southampton at St Mary’s last Sunday and stretched their winning run to four climbing to the top of the table thanks to goals courtesy of Kayleigh Green and Melissa Johnson.

A win at the weekend could see the Addicks go to three points above the Saints and remain top of the table.

Melaine Reay led the Black Cats on a nine-game unbeaten run at the start of this season, recording six wins and three draws.

However, Sunday’s visitors suffered their first defeat of the season against Blackburn Rovers last Sunday losing 1-0 at home. Blackburn Rovers striker Chelsea Ferguson netted the all-important winner in the 56th minute, seeing Sunderland move from top spot to second under Charlton in the league table.

The two teams’ previous meeting was back in March 2023 where the points were shared in a 2-2 draw at The Oakwood, as Melissa Johnson’s brace was cancelled out by a stoppage-time equaliser from Grace McCatty.

Charlton’s last trip to the Eppleton Colliery Welfare Ground came in September 2022 as the Addicks snatched all three points with a 3-2 victory thanks to goals from Ella Rutherford, Kiera Skeels and a winning header from Elisha N’Dow in stoppage time.
