On-loan academy graduate Micah Mbick is the Sky Bet League Two Goal of the Month winner for October!
It was a strike that combined imagination with touch and the fearlessness of youth as the Colchester United loanee lifted the ball over a defender, spun round and repeated the trick on Grimsby Town goalkeeper Christy Pym.
Mbick said: "Just a testament to how we are as a team. We’re an exciting team attacking-wise, we can score in lots of different ways, and with that goal I was able to show a bit of quality.
"It was a great moment for me. As a striker it’s my job to affect those areas and do the best for the team."
Colchester United manager Danny Cowley said: "It was a great goal, a brilliant goal. It just showed his athleticism and power, and also his technical quality to bring the touch out of the sky, then to turn and have the presence of mind and the execution to lift the ball over the onrushing goalkeeper. I thought it was an incredible goal."
Lead Sky Bet EFL Goal of the Month judge and Sky Sports Pundit Don Goodman said: "Micah Mbick showed brilliance, tenacity and desire to turn what was a hopeful ball up the pitch into a goal for his side.
"A magnificent first touch bamboozled the defender, before he confidently lifted the ball over the on rushing keeper."
Mbick beat off competition from Accrington Stanley’s Paddy Madden, Crewe Alexandra’s Max Sanders and Tranmere Rovers’ Charlie Whitaker to claim the prize.
The winners of the Sky Bet EFL Goals of the Month were selected by a panel of experts - comprising Sky Sports’ EFL experts Don Goodman and David Prutton - and a public vote.
