PREVIEW | Charlton vs Blackburn Rovers

Charlton

Off the back of a resounding 4-1 victory against Ipswich Town in round four of the Adobe Women's FA Cup last weekend, the Addicks will return to home soil this Sunday looking to continue their now nine-match unbeaten run across all competitions.

A brace from Melissa Johnson as well as goals from Freya Godfrey, and Elisha N’Dow saw Charlton advance to the fifth round of the competition, but for now, Karen Hills' side turn their attention to this Sunday's league meeting against the Lancashire side.

Charlton will look to jump ahead of Championship leaders Birmingham City – with the two sides separated only on goal difference heading into the second half of the season.

Ella Rutherford returned to the pitch last Sunday for the first time since suffering an ACL injury in February 2022. New signing Mel Filis recorded her first Charlton minutes against Ipswich whilst Gracie Pearse was an unused substitute.

Blackburn Rovers

Seventh in the Championship, Simon Parker’s side sit eight points below Charlton – having registered five wins, five losses and zero draws so far this season.

The Blue and Whites were subjected to a fourth-round defeat in the cup last weekend after an opener from Megan Hornby was cancelled out by three Crystal Palace goals in quick succession.

Head-to-Head

Having faced off on nine previous occasions, the Addicks have won four, with five meetings ending in a draw – Blackburn Rovers are yet to find success against Karen Hills’ side.

Kayleigh Green’s penalty kick ensured Charlton walked away with three points the last time these two sides met back in October at The County Ground.

On their previous visit to The Oakwood, Rovers grabbed a 2-0 lead at half-time with strikes from Millie Chandarana and Saffron Jordan, but a penalty from Emily Simpkins after the break and a goal from Melissa Johnson meant points were eventually shared.
