Rak-Sakyi: “It was a great goal!”

Jes Rak-Sakyi was pleased to help Charlton return to winning ways with a 2-1 victory against Exeter City on Saturday.

The forward opened the scoring at St James Park with his eighth goal of the campaign – and certainly his best. George Dobson found the youngster in behind with a precise, lofted pass and he rifled a sumptuous first-time volley past the helpless Jamal Blackman.

Speaking to CharltonTV post-match, Rak-Sakyi said: “We needed a reaction from last week and we’re just happy that we’ve been able to bounce back from last week’s defeat [against Bolton] and get the three points.”

“Me and Dobbo have that connection and I know he has the quality to find me in behind, so I just ran off my man. Dobbo found me on the run and I was just happy that I tucked it away!

“The gaffer wants me to add that to my game - running in behind without the ball,” he added. “I’m happy that Dobbo found me and it was a great goal in the end!

“The gaffer is really demanding of us in training because he knows the quality that we have. It’s been a tough season but we’re just trying to improve every week to get the results.”

Dean Holden’s Addicks were backed by 1,057 travelling fans in Devon and Rak-Sakyi was delighted to send them back to south London with three points.

“It’s great to have the fans’ support,” he said. “They’re just like our 12th man in the squad. They travel with us all the time and we always want to give 100% for them because they deserve it.”
