Charlton v Durham

The spoils were shared as Kayleigh Green's stoppage time converted penalty earned the Addicks a point against Durham at The Oakwood.

Charlton started the game on the front foot and impressed going down the right flank, Hills’ side saw their first chance at goal in the 12th minute as Bashford let fly from distance, but Saunders made the important save in the Durham net to keep the scores level.

Just moments later, Durham received two chances to take the lead inside the opening 20 minutes. Eleanor Ryan-Doyle produced the latter as she headed over the bar from close range.

Jessica Gray was called into action on the stroke of half-time. The shot-stopper made an all-important save at her near post to deny a thunderous effort from Sarah Robson. Shortly after, the keeper was forced into another stop as she tipped a powerful effort over the bar to keep it level at the interval.

The visitors came out the break strong, compiling pressure toward the Charlton penalty box. They almost had their breakthrough just ten minutes after the restart as a corner was swung deep into the box. Gray made the initial parry away but the ball scrambled in the box as the shot-stopper was down with an injury, foul called by the official.

With 20 minutes remaining of the encounter, substitute Freya Godfrey had the opportunity to break the deadlock. The winger dribbled past two players in the box before sending an effort goalwards, her initial strike was deflected before a Durham defender made an outstanding slide tackle to deny Godfrey on the follow-up.

In the 84th minute, Durham grabbed the opener. A corner was curled in towards the penalty spot and Sarah Robson headed back across goal with a looping effort into the top corner.

Deep into stoppage time, Charlton were given a chance to level the scoring in the 99th minute. Green stepped up from six yards and fired low into the bottom left, sending Saunders in the opposite direction.

Roche came close to snatching a winner at the death, the ball fell to the midfielder in the box, she showed great technique to get the shot off on the turn but her effort was fired over in the dying embers.
