REPORT | COVENTRY 1 CHARLTON 4

Melissa Johnson secured her first hat trick of the season as the Addicks put four past Coventry United in a dominant performance at The Butts Park Arena.

Hills's Addicks were ahead within ten minutes after forward Johnson won the ball upfield took a glance of keeper Eleanor Heeps off her line and put her long-range effort into the back of the net.

The hosts then came up with a chance of their own ten minutes later but Connie Scofield's run was quickly halted when she was flagged for offside.

The Addicks doubled their advantage inside thirty minutes of proceedings and it was Johnson on the end of it again to secure her tenth goal of the season.

After a lovely initial build-up play from Beth Roe, she threaded it through to Emily Simpkins who squared the final ball into Johnson to finish from close range.

Coventry did have the ball in the back of the net in the 32nd minute but the referee ruled it out due to a clash of heads beforehand.

Charlton made it a three-goal advantage six minutes into the second half, it was Freda Ayisi who shifted the ball to her left and Emily Simpkins's superb strike found the bottom corner beyond Hepps' reach.

United came close to scoring fifteen minutes from time after a corner ball header rattled off the crossbar.

Johnson got her hat trick in the 81st minute after some wonderful build-up play with Ayisi. Johnson had the final shot on goal and it flew into the back of the net.

Coventry did find their goal moments later through Morgan, but Karen Hills'  Addicks controled the final moments of Sunday afternoon's proceedings, limiting any further threat on Sian Rogers' goal.

The win takes the Addicks up to third in the Barclays Women's Championship table. Charlton's next test will come against Blackburn on Wednesday.
