Ipswich v Charlton

Charlton progressed into round five of this season's Adobe Women's FA Cup in style after a Melissa Johnson brace as well as goals from Freya Godfrey and Elisha N'Dow sealed the victory for the Addicks in Suffolk.

Charlton dominated the possession in the early exchanges, but the hosts took an early lead after a break in play for Ipswich saw Peskett put the ball into the back of the net in the eight minute.

Soon after Jess Gray made a crucial stop to deny the hosts from doubling their advantage after Lenna Gunning-Williams unleashed a powerful shot destined for the net.

The Addicks continued to push for an equaliser and it was Melissa Johnson who would eventually find a goal for the visitors when she blasted the ball into the back of the net from close range.

The forward doubled her goal tally for the afternoon soon after when a cornerball from Carla Humphrey caused chaos in the box. The ball bounced around, reaching Johnson, who leapt into the air and expertly headed home, giving Charlton a 2-1 lead.

Just minutes later, Charlton's number seven Angela Addison earned the Addicks a penalty after being fouled in the box. Eighteen-year-old Freya Godfrey stepped up against her former side and coolly converted, securing her first goal for the club and taking the lead to 3-1 heading into the break.

Charlton made several changes soon after the interval injecting fresh energy into the game. Ella Rutherford made her return to the pitch after recovering from an ACL injury, and Mel Filis, our newly signed loan player was also introduced into play.

In the 73rd minute, came the moment that would seal Charlton's victory. Ella Rutherford, displaying her superior skill, stepped up to take a free kick. With precision and finesse, she curled the ball into the box. Elisha N'Dow rose above everyone else, her head connecting perfectly with the ball and sent it crashing into the back of the net to see Charlton extend their lead.

The Addicks' victory in Felixstowe saw Karen Hills' side put their name in the hat for the fifth round of this season's Adobe Women's FA Cup.
