Taylor: "It feels amazing to join Charlton"

TT Covered End

Terry Taylor, Charlton’s newest addition, gave his first interview with the club after putting pen-to-paper on Wednesday.

Asked about how it felt to be a Charlton player, Taylor said: “It feels amazing. Having a look at the ground, meeting everyone at the training ground, it feels really good so I can’t wait to get going.”

Taylor had the opportunity to speak to manager, Dean Holden, before signing.

“I think the big thing that stuck out to me was the ambition, his plan and how he plans to execute it this season,” said Taylor. “Just where the club is headed, in the general direction, I think there’s a really good feel to it.”

The 22-year-old penned a three-year contract with the Addicks amidst interest from multiple Championship clubs this summer and was asked about what drew him to the Valley.

“There were different talks with different clubs, but as soon as I spoke to the manager here, he gave me a real feeling that I’d be valued here and the direction the club’s going, it’s only up from here.”

“The new owners have taken over; they seem like they’re going to run the club well. So hopefully everything comes together, and it can be a really positive season for us.”

Taylor discussed what he hoped to achieve in the upcoming campaign. "I think the obvious thing is promotion. It’s obviously early to say that, but if that’s what we want to do then then you’ve got to set a goal… take it game by game but with that end goal in mind, we want to get into the Championship.”

Taylor is a talented midfielder and explained that he is highly committed on both sides of the ball.

“I like to get on the ball, dictate play, quite technical” he said. “But I like the other side of the game as well. I can roll my sleeves up and get in the nitty-gritty, I think I can do both side to the game.”

After attending our pre-season friendly against Millwall last night, the Wales U21 International is keen to get going.

“I think for a pre-season game it’s probably the best I’ve seen,” Taylor said. “I was in my seat and speaking to everyone and saying ‘I wish I was on the pitch!’… it was good to get a first taste of the Charlton team.

“Seeing some of the football we played, it was really positive, so I can’t wait to get involved.”
