U18 REPORT | AFC Bournemouth 0 Charlton 2

Charlton's U18s returned to winning ways with a 2-0 triumph against AFC Bournemouth at the Canford Park Arena.

Emmanuel Sol-Loza and Reuben Reid both netted for Jason Pearce’s side as the young Addicks claimed all three points on the south coast.

Charlton edged in front early on through Sol-Loza, who capitalised on a lapse in concentration at the back.

A quick turnover in possession saw Ellis McMillan play the ball over the Cherries’ defence, allowing Sol-Loza to chase. The forward was able to nick the ball off the defender and close in on goal, where he converted with a cool strike at the near post.

Finley Woodham was called into action just moments later as George Churinidze was slipped in on goal through a lofted ball over Samuel Washington-Amoah. The Bournemouth winger let fly with a powerful effort from close range, but fortunately for the young Addicks Woodham was quick off his line to deny the winger.

Pearce’s side came close to adding a second shortly after the half-time interval as Reid and Bradley Tagoe found themselves in a two-v-two scenario. The former was able to take it past his man and pull a pass back across goal from the byline, where Tagoe fired wide from close range.

Charlton were at the double ahead of the hour-mark thanks to some clever thinking from Manu Wales. The midfielder was able to escape the full-back out on the left wing and drive into the opposition’s penalty area, where he slotted a simple pass across to Reid who was able to convert with a well-placed finish and provide his side with a two-goal cushion.

Despite their comfortable lead, Charlton continued to push for another with a relentless display and soon received the chance to add a third as McMillan was brought down in the box. The forward stepped up from 12 yards and saw his low strike saved.

The U18s return to action on Saturday when they host Brentford at Sparrows Lane (KO 11am GMT).
