U18 REPORT | Cardiff City 1 Charlton 1

'

Charlton's U18s were forced to settle for a point in a 1-1 draw with Cardiff City on Saturday.

Following a goalless first half at the Cardiff International Sports Stadium, the young Addicks took the lead just three minutes into the second period. Ed Thomas’ pinpoint pass found Raynon Richman in behind the hosts’ defence and he showed great composure to round the goalkeeper before firing past the defender on the line.

The Bluebirds drew level on 62 minutes through Paul Moreno, who sent a left-footed free-kick past Logan Williams from 25 yards.

Charlton continue to push and had a flurry of late chances through Patrick Boje. The substitute almost made an immediate impact as Ellis McMillan’s blocked shot fell into this path, but the midfielder’s effort was headed clear by a blue shirt.

Boje then went close again five minutes from time, forcing Sam Jones into a smart stop low down to his right.

The U18s are next in action on Saturday when they host Sheffield United at Sparrows Lane (KO 11am GMT).
