U18 REPORT | Charlton 5 Wigan Athletic 0

'

Charlton’s U18s returned to the top of the Professional Development League 2 – South table with an emphatic 5-0 victory over Wigan Athletic on Saturday.

Ryan Huke bagged a brace and Karoy Anderson and Brook Myers were also on the scoresheet at Sparrows Lane as Jason Pearce’s side recorded a third win on the spin to leapfrog their Millwall counterparts.

The young Addicks opened the scoring after just nine minutes when Patrick Casey flicked the ball into the path of the advancing Huke, who slotted into the bottom-left corner with aplomb.

Charlton were two goals ahead moments later as a Latics defender could only turn Henry Rylah’s dangerous cross into his own net.

Huke added his second and the young Addicks’ third eight minutes after the restart, poking home Anderson’s excellent low centre at the back post.

Anderson turned from provider to goalscorer just two minutes later. Jacob Safa retrieved possession in the final third and fed his fellow midfielder, who found the bottom-right corner with a left-footed drive from 20 yards.

Substitute Myers added further gloss to the scoreline 13 minutes from time when he pounced on a loose back pass from Wigan’s number seven, showed great composure to round the goalkeeper and stroked home from close range.
