U21 CUP REPORT | Charlton 0 Norwich City 5

'

Charlton's U21 were condemned to a 5-0 defeat by Norwich City in the Premier League Cup on Monday evening.

Five different Norwich players were on the scoresheet at Princes Park as the young Addicks suffered a second Premier League Cup reverse.

Charlton came close to netting the opener through Patrick Casey, who fired wide on the turn.

Shortly after, Norwich threatened through Adian Manning. The 19-year-old received the ball on the edge of the box and sent a powerful effort goalwards, which was repelled Prince Adegoke.

Caleb Ansen was called into action for the visitors on the half-hour mark. A deep ball was swung into the box from Toby Bower out on the left wing, finding Henry Rylah at the back post who fired an effort toward the bottom corner, though the visiting stopper got down low quickly to produce a superb save.

Just moments later, the Canaries took the lead through Manning, who capitalised on a mistake at the back to latch onto a through ball and fire across goal to put Norwich ahead.

Adegoke was called upon yet again on the stroke of half-time as he made an outstanding save to deny Daniel Ogwuru from close range.

Norwich doubled their lead on the hour mark through Ken Aboh. Finley Welch showed good composure to dance his way into the Addicks' box and square for the forward to tap in from close range.

Three minutes later, the Canaries added their third. Aboh fed a ball through for Kellen Fisher to pounce on and fire his effort into the bottom corner.

With 14 minutes remaining, Pedro Lima netted a fourth for the visitors. Fisher turned provider, cutting the ball back across the box for Lima whose effort deflected into the top corner.

Substitute Micah Mbick came close to pulling one back for the young Addicks as he received the ball on the edge of the Norwich box. The forward did well to get the ball out from underneath his feet and unleash a curling effort at goal, but Ansen was there to make the save.

Norwich claimed their fifth of the evening in additional time through Joe Duffy. A quality passing move from the opposition led to the ball eventually falling for Duffy on the penalty spot and the substitute curled his effort past Adegoke from close range.

Chris Lock's side travel to Wolves for their final Premier League Cup group fixture on Monday, November 13th.
