Charlton's U21s exited the GoCardless Kent Senior Cup following a 3-2 defeat to Maidstone United on Tuesday evening.
Following a bright start from Chris Lock's side, Toby Bower opened the scoring on 10 minutes for the young Addicks with a deflected free-kick.
Charlton's lead lasted 10 minutes, as the hosts pulled themselves level through John Gilbert who slotted past Tommy Reid.
The second half started on an even keel, but it was the Stones who took the lead on 64 minutes. A defensive mix-up at the back for Charlton meant that the ball fell to Gilbert, who blasted it beyond Tommy Reid’s reach to put the hosts ahead.
Deon Moore added a third for Maidstone 10 minutes from time, but the young Addicks continued to probe and were awarded a penalty shortly after. Bower stepped up from 12 yards, only to see his spot-kick saved by Lenny Holden.
Charlton did reduce the deficit through Max Kuczynski in stoppage time as the defender nodded in Bower’s free-kick, though it was the hosts who progressed to the semi-final stage.
The U21s are next in action on Tuesday, December 16th when they take on Leicester City at Princes Park in the Premier League Cup (KO 7pm GMT).
