U21 REPORT | Charlton 5 Ipswich Town 0

Charlton’s U21s returned to winning ways in style with an emphatic 5-0 triumph over Ipswich Town at Sparrows Lane on Monday.

Henry Rylah, Tolu Ladapo, Patrick Casey, Micah Mbick and Ollie Hobden were all on the scoresheet in a ruthless display from Chris Lock's side.

The young Addicks started brightly and forced visiting goalkeeper Woody Williamson into an early double save. First, the Scotland U18 international repelled captain Harvey Kedwell’s low drive and then he denied Casey’s follow-up effort.

There was nothing Williamson could do on 18 minutes, though. Richard Chin played a ball down the right flank for the advancing Rylah, who showed real desire to steal possession from Edwin Agbaje before pouncing on the rebound of his attempted cross to finish from a tight angle.

At the other end, Leon Ayinde headed Nico Valentine’s cross over for the visitors when well placed.

On the stroke of half-time, Williamson got down well once more to deny Jason Adigun and although Casey was first to the loose ball, he was unable to put the ball beyond a succession of scrambling blue shirts.

Ayyuba Jambang was on hand to keep out Casey’s shot eight minutes after the restart, bravely blocking the Irishman’s goalbound effort from Kedwell’s square ball.

Ladapo doubled his side’s advantage on the hour-mark, nodding home from close range following excellent work from the industrious Adigun.

Casey added Charlton’s third on 73 minutes with a sensational finish, spotting Williamson off his line and finding the back of the net from long-range.

Substitute Mbick made it four in the final minute of normal time, rising highest to head home Kedwell’s inswinging free-kick.

Fellow substitute Hobden completed the rout in stoppage-time, racing down the right before converting beyond Williamson.

Lock’s men are next in action on Sunday, November 12th, travelling to Aggborough Stadium to take on Wolves in the Premier League Cup (KO 3pm).
