U21 REPORT | Millwall 4 Charlton 1

'

Charlton's U21s fell to a 4-1 defeat against Millwall at The Den on Tuesday afternoon.

Tyreece Campbell cancelled out Seb Drozd's early penalty with a well-taken goal on 44 minutes, but three quickfire goals in 13 second-half minutes took the game away from the young Addicks as Millwall claimed a seventh successive Professional Development League 2 victory.

The hosts started sprightly in SE16 and would have taken an early lead but for an outstanding double save from Nathan Harness. First, the captain flew to his left to keep out Drozd's powerful drive before jumping to his feet to repel Kyle Smith's follow-up.

Millwall won a penalty minutes later when Karoy Anderson felled Drozd, who dusted himself off to convert from 12 yards, despite Harness diving the right way.

At the other end Charles Clayden had Lions stopper Connal Trueman scrambling across his goal, though the left-back's effort curled just wide of the far post.

The young Addicks levelled proceedings on the stroke of half-time through Campbell. Having received the ball from Aaron Henry, the winger drove into the box and neatly shifted the ball back onto his left foot to find the bottom-left corner.

The Lions regained the lead three minutes after the restart. Drozd's quick free-kick found Isaac Olaofe racing in behind the Addicks' defence and although Harness denied the striker initially, he tapped home at the second time of asking.

Harness soon had to be alert to keep out Drozd's low effort with an outstretched boot, but the hosts extended their lead moments later. Drozd was involved again, regaining possession deep in the final third and Nino Adom-Malaki was on hand to add the hosts' third.

Three soon became four as Abdul Abdulmalik latched onto a loose back pass from Aaron Henry, before rounding the onrushing Harness and tapping the ball into an empty net.
