PREMIER LEAGUE CUP PREVIEW | Charlton v Middlesbrough

George Jones reports

Charlton’s U23s face an important match in their Premier League Cup campaign this afternoon when they host Middlesbrough at the DGS Marine Stadium (1pm).

The Addicks currently sit third in the Group F table, behind leaders Fulham and today’s opponents Boro, but victory this afternoon could lift Jason Euell’s side to the summit of the table.

Charlton have played three games in the Premier League Cup so far this season. They drew 3-3 with AFC Wimbledon, were narrowly beaten 1-0 by Middlesbrough and beat Fulham 3-1 in December.

They put in a fantastic performance against the Cottagers - their most recent outing in this competition - with Josh Umerah bagging a double and Joe Aribo also scoring in that match.

The victory gave them a strong chance of progressing into the next round and they can enhance their chances further, if they can record three points today.

Season ticket holders and Valley Gold members are permitted to attend this afternoon's fixture for free. Tickets are otherwise priced at £3 adults and £1 concessions.
