CHARLTON UPBEATS | Legends line up for charity walk

James King reports

With under a week until the Upbeats Walk on Saturday, April 8th, four further Charlton legends will be joining Derek Hales and Mike Flanagan to raise funds for the much-loved Upbeats.

Simon Webster, Bob Bolder and Carl Leaburn lined up for Charlton on the club’s historic return to The Valley 25 years ago and now they - along with fellow Addicks icon Paul Mortimer – will be supporting the Upbeats on the fundraising charity walk.

Next Saturday, the walking groups will set off at 9am from Sparrows Lane, before arriving at The Valley nine miles and three-and-a-half hours later.

Speaking about the event Addicks, cult hero Leaburn said “I have loved taking part in the Upbeats walk in previous years and can’t wait to join again this year. It’s a great example of the Charlton family coming together and supporting a brilliant cause. It’s part of the spirit that got us back to The Valley 25 years ago.

“I would really encourage supporters to join Simon, Bob, Paul, Derek, Mike and myself next Saturday or try and donate if possible."

There is still space available to join Bob, Simon, Paul and Carl on the walk to raise money for the Upbeats and you can sign up for free here > http://www.cact.org.uk/courses/upbeats-walk

All participants will then have the opportunity to support The Upbeats in a curtain-raiser fixture against Albion in the Community’s Down’s syndrome team, before watching Charlton taken on Southend United at 3pm.

Included for participating is:
•    Nine-mile walk from Sparrows Lane to The Valley
•    Charlton legend to lead your walking group
•    Charlton Upbeats walking t-shirt
•    Arrival pastry and tea or coffee
•    Discounted ticket for Charlton’s game against

Each walker is encouraged to raise at least £50 for their involvement, helping CACT to reach their fundraising goal for the project.
