INTERNATIONAL | Konsa and England U20s reach World Cup quarter-final

George Jones reports

Ezri Konsa and England U20s have qualified for the quarter-finals of the World Cup after beating Costa Rica 2-1 on Wednesday morning.

The Young Lions came into the game in confident mood, having picked up seven points from their three Group A matches to finish top, and they took a 35th minute lead on Wednesday through Ademola Lookman.

The former Charlton academy graduate doubled his and his side’s tally on 63 minutes to put England in control.

Costa Rica pulled one back late on when Randall Leal hit the net but the double from Lookman – who is Konsa’s roommate – was enough to seal England’s progression.

Paul Simpson’s team will contest their quarter-final tie against Mexico on Monday, June 5th.

Konsa is still awaiting his first minutes of the tournament and, last week, the club spoke to him to ask how he was settling in in South Korea. You can read what he had to say by clicking here
