The new signing turned 26 two days ago and was surprised by the team with a cake for his birthday.

“It was a very nice surprise... I’ve only been here a few days and the lads sorted it out for me and it was good.”

Aneke enjoyed a solid start in his first game for the club, despite the outcome of the match which was abandoned after a the Romanian outfit saw two of their players dismissed for man-handling the referee.

“It was good. Good to be out there, good to get a feel of the ball in a kind of competitive match, it’s been a couple of months now since I played a proper match, so yeah it was good.”

It has been an intense but enjoyable start to his career here at Charlton but he relishes the chance to impress even further in the future.

“That’s what we’re here to do. We want to play football so I can’t wait, let the games roll up!”

Speaking about his time with Lee Bowyer thus far, Aneke said “He’s been good to me on the training pitch, giving me advice of what he wants from me and how he wants me to play, etc., so yeah it’s good.”

Finally Chuks talked about his link-up play with Lyle Taylor and how they both could work well together for the season.

“Lyle’s a good player, I like to pass and feed balls through and he kind of plays off the shoulder so yeah I definitely think there’s a partnership that can be done.”
