Gallen on the signing of Ben Amos, the dressing room and future transfer plans

The Addicks today completed the signing of Ben Amos and Head of Recruitment Steve Gallen was thrilled to welcome back the popular goalkeeper.

You can watch Gallen’s full interview on Valley Pass tomorrow.

Below are some of the talking points.

On the signing of Amos…

“We’re really pleased to get Ben back. Behind the scenes all summer, we’ve been pushing it and pushing it – trying to get him back. Lee (Bowyer) in particular is pleased we have our goalkeepers lined up. Since I’ve come to the club it’s always been about looking to get loan goalkeepers to support Dillon, or help him, or push him along.

“So now we have our own two goalkeepers at the club, two permanents, two good goalkeepers, it is really, really pleasing. They know each other well, there is a mutual respect between them.”

On bringing back players like Amos and Ben Purrington, that know the Charlton dressing room…

“In terms of the social side, attempting to bring in eleven or twelve brand new players was always going to be difficult. Lee and I were discussing in bringing players back such as Ben Purrington and Ben Amos, who would fit into the group really easily. I was also monitoring Ben last year down Millwall, so I watched him quite a bit and we’re always keeping an eye on players who have been with us before.”

On what happens next in the transfer window…

“We have a few more to get in of course and we’re working on it. We seem to do a block of four at the start because it’s hard to do so many in one go, there’s just too much work to go on.

“So, we did four (Bonne, Aneke, Lockyer, Purrington) and now I’m hoping on a next block of four, I don’t want to give any dates or anything like that, but we’re working on it. Ben is probably the first of that next block and then in the final couple of weeks, you’ll see a few more players hopefully coming in, they’ll be loan players at that stage, but I think we have got a couple more permanent transfers to do first. We’ve got our eye on a few, we have our targets, and they’re well aware of what we want to do. Fingers crossed it will all fall into place.”
