U18S REPORT | Crewe Alexandra 1 Charlton 2

Charlton’s U18s made it three wins from three with a 2-1 victory at Crewe Alexandra on Saturday.

Luca Albon continued his hot streak in front of goal with his fourth strike in two games to give the Addicks an early lead in Cheshire, while Tyreece Campbell (pictured) netted the second before half-time, while the home side’s consoltation also came before the break with all three goals coming in the first 45 minutes.

Albon was made to work hard for his opener, winning back possession midway into the opposition half before embarking on a fine solo run which saw him get into the box and deliver a fine finish low into the bottom left-hand corner with five minutes on the clock.

The second came via some more impressive build-up play with Freddy Barton making an excellent over-lapping run on the right to deliver a dangerous first-time cross.

And although a Crewe defender was on hand to knock away the initial danger, the ball only fell as far as Campbell, who coolly placed a left-footed finish into the bottom left to give the Addicks a healthy cushion in the 36th minute.

Crewe’s deficit returned to a single goal just two minutes later, however. A clever ‘Cruyff turn’ on the left-hand side of the box from the hosts’ number eight allowed him to get space before drilling a shot towards goal that was, unfortunately, turned into his own net be a Charlton defender’s boot on the line.

But the one-goal lead would be enough for Charlton’s youngsters, who stood firm in the second half to keep hold of their points.

They now go into Saturday’s home clash with Barnsley at Sparrows Lane with maximum points from their three games, so far.
