U23S REPORT | Erith & Belvedere 3 Charlton 2

Charlton U23s bowed out of the London Senior Cup in a 3-2 loss at Erith and Belvedere.

Lead Coach Anthony Hayes rotated his side for the game and while the young Addicks enjoyed the vast majority of possession and chances, it was the home side who were most clinical in front if goal.

Hady Ghandour fired an 11th minute header over the bar from an excellent Richard Chin cross after the right back got to the byline.

Ryan Viggars then saw a driven shot well saved and Ghandour was unable to hit the target with another header in a frantic opening 20 minutes.

Erith and Belvedere took the lead on the stroke of half time when James Beadle was adjudged to have fouled an attacker in the box. Luke Rooney dispatched the resulting penalty with pace, power and precision.

It was just four minutes after the break that Charlton levelled, Euan Williams broke into the box and calmly finished.

Four minutes later Charlton were 2-1 up and in control. Viggars turned well on the edge of the area and his deflected shot gave the Deres’ keeper no chance.

Skipper Ben Dempsey was denied a goal by a brilliant save from Rilwan Anibaba and that save proved crucial as the home side levelled in the 74th minute when substitute Tommy Brown got on the end of a long ball and chipped over Beadle.

The home side’s winner came two minutes in to stoppage time when Reece Barrett bundled in a late free kick.
