PAPA JOHN’S TROPHY PREVIEW | Charlton v Southampton U21s

Charlton return to Papa John’s Trophy action on Tuesday evening (7pm) when they welcome Southampton’s under-21s side to The Valley.

The Addicks currently top Group O, having cruised to a 6-1 triumph over Crawley Town in the competition opener.

TEAM NEWS

Ryan Inniss (thigh), Jake Forster-Caskey (ACL) and Ronnie Schwartz (calf) remain sidelined for the Addicks, while Harry Arter, Hady Ghandour and Conor Washington are all away on international duty with their respective countries.

The visitors, meanwhile, will be without Kazeem Olaigbe, who is away with Belgium under-19s, though Caleb Watts - a teammate of Ashley Maynard-Brewer’s at Tokyo 2020 - is expected to return having served his suspension.

THE OPPOSITION

Saints fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat against Leyton Orient at Brisbane Road in their opener last month, with Anthony Papdopolous bagging the winner on 82 minutes to leave Dave Horseman’s side sat third in Group O.

MATCH OFFICIALS

David Rock will be the man in the middle on Tuesday evening. The official last refereed a Charlton fixture in December 2020 - a 5-2 victory over AFC Wimbledon in SE7.

Rock will be assisted by Michael Begley and Daniel Bonneywell, while Andrew Bennett is the Fourth Official.
