U23S REPORT | Swansea City 1 Charlton 3

Charlton’s U23s got back to winning ways with a 3-1 victory over a strong Swansea City side in Wales on Monday afternoon.

The Addicks took the lead with 20 minutes on the clock through Ryan Viggars. Dylan Gavin intercepted a sloppy pass out from the goalkeeper on the edge of the Swans’ box before feeding his fellow attacker, who firmly finished inside the near post.

Charlton scored twice in two minutes, doubling their lead almost immediately in spectacular fashion. Having won a free-kick eight yards inside his own half, Aaron Henry looked up and spotted Swans stopper Nico Defreitas-Hansen off his line and delivered an in-perfect lob directly into the back of the net from all of 55 yards.

The hosts threatened to get themselves back into the game early in the second half, pulling a goal back through Morgan Whittaker who cut in from the right-hand side and bent a curling shot into the bottom corner.

However, the Londoners would restore their two-goal cushion just four minutes later. Tyreece Campbell claimed the assist, threading a pass through for Gavin to get into the box and strike a powerful effort in off the underside of the bar to claim all three points for Charlton.

Charlton U23s: Harvey, Ness (Appiah 73), O’Connor (Barker 56), Bakrin, Campbell, Chin, Henry, Dempsey, Viggars (Aouachria 78), Santos, Gavin.
