MATCH PREVIEW | Crewe Alexandra v Charlton

Charlton return to Sky Bet League One action on Wednesday night (7.45pm) with a trip to the Mornflake Stadium to take on Crewe Alexandra.

The Addicks and the Railwaymen were initially scheduled to meet last Saturday, though the fixture was postponed owing to Johnnie Jackson’s side’s involvement in the Emirates FA Cup third round.

TEAM NEWS

The Addicks will check on the fitness of Conor Washington (hamstring) after the Northern Ireland international returned to training on Tuesday, though Jackson will be without the services of Sam Lavelle (groin), Jake Forster-Caskey (ACL) and Jayden Stockley (hip).

Forwards Chris Long (self-isolation) and Scott Kashket (illness) are both expected to feature in Crewe’s matchday 18, but manager David Artell revealed in his Tuesday press conference that an unnamed member of his squad is currently self-isolating.

Rio Adebisi (foot), Nathan Woodthorpe (ankle), Callum McFadzean (foot) and Ben Knight (foot) are all injury doubts for the hosts.

Owen Dale, who recently returned to Crewe following the expiration of his loan at Blackpool, will also be absent owing to an undisclosed injury.

THE OPPOSITION

Crewe currently sit 23rd in the League One table, seven points adrift of safety and above only Doncaster Rovers having claimed just four wins all season.

Artell’s side go into the midweek clash on the back of a 4-2 Papa John’s Trophy reverse against Rotherham United, preceded by a 4-1 defeat at Burton Albion on New Year’s Day in the league.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

Charlton and Crewe have squared off on seven previous occasions, with the Addicks winning six and the remaining encounter resulting in a draw.

The Addicks won August’s reverse fixture at The Valley 2-0 thanks to strikes from Diallang Jaiyesimi and Stockley.

Our last meeting in Cheshire, meanwhile, came on the opening day of the 2020/21 campaign, with goals from Alfie Doughty and Washington earning Charlton a 2-0 victory.

MATCH OFFICIALS

Robert Lewis will oversee proceedings on Wednesday night. The official last refereed a Charlton fixture last August - a 1-0 Carabao Cup reverse against AFC Wimbledon in SE7.

Lewis will be assisted by Peter Gooch and Johnathon Bickerdike, while Joe Clark is the Fourth Official.

COLOURS

The Addicks will be donning their black and gold third strip at the Mornflake Stadium.
