PAPA JOHN’S TROPHY PREVIEW | Hartlepool United v Charlton

The Addicks will be targeting a place in the final four of the Papa John’s Trophy on Tuesday evening (7pm) when Johnnie Jackson’s men visit the Suit Direct Stadium to face Hartlepool United.

Jonathan Leko secured Charlton’s passage through to the quarter-finals of the competition with an injury-time winner against MK Dons at The Valley earlier this month, with the Addicks now within two victories of a potential trip to Wembley.

TEAM NEWS

Sam Lavelle and new signing Juan Castillo are both in contention to face Pools, though Jake Forster-Caskey (ACL) and Jayden Stockley (hip) remain absent.

Jamie Sterry is available again for the hosts having served a two-match suspension, while Marcus Carver (groin) will be assessed having missed out on Saturday.

THE OPPOSITION

Having finished runners-up in Northern Group A, Graeme Lee’s side defeated Sheffield Wednesday 3-0 at Hillsborough before narrowly beating Bolton Wanderers 1-0 to book the last eight tie with the Addicks.

Pools currently sit 16th in Sky Bet League Two having gained promotion from the Vanarama National League last term via the play-offs.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

Charlton and Hartlepool have gone toe-to-toe on seven previous occasions with the Addicks winning five, Pools one and the remaining encounter resulting in a draw.

The last meeting came on the final day of the 2011/12 League One campaign at The Valley, where Chris Powell’s side were crowned champions after recording a 30th triumph of the season.

Peter Hartley fired the visitors ahead on 31 minutes before three goals in 11 second-half minutes from Danny Hollands, Danny Haynes and Yann Kermorgant ensured the Addicks finished the season on 101 points, despite Gary Liddle’s deflected effort late on.

Our last visit to Victoria Park, meanwhile, resulted in an emphatic 4-0 triumph. Bradley Wright-Phillips first-half brace put the Addicks in the ascendancy before Hollands and Scott Wagstaff added gloss to the scoreline in the second period.

MATCH OFFICIALS

Samuel Barrott will be the man in the middle on Tuesday evening, overseeing his maiden Charlton fixture.

Barrott will be assisted by Conor Brown and Graeme Fyvie, while Andrew Kitchen is the Fourth Official.

COLOURS

The Addicks will be sporting their home strip in Durham.
