TEAM NEWS | Three changes for Pompey clash

Adam Matthews, Alex Gilbey and Conor Washington all start tonight’s Sky Bet League One fixture against Portsmouth at Fratton Park as Johnnie Jackson makes three changes from our last league outing.

Craig MacGillivray once again starts between the sticks, behind an unchanged back-three of Sean Clare, captain Ryan Inniss and Akin Famewo.

Matthews and Corey Blackett-Taylor are expected to occupy wing-back roles as Gilbey, George Dobson and Albie Morgan line up in midfield, with Chuks Aneke and Washington leading the Addicks’ line.

Elsewhere, Stephen Henderson, Jason Pearce, Ben Purrington, Ben Watson, Elliot Lee, Diallang Jaiyesimi and Jonathan Leko form Charlton's substitutes bench.

Commenting on Mason Burstow’s absence, Jackson told CharltonTV: “A bid has come in from a Premier League club for Mason, so we’ve allowed him to go and chat with them. As far as I know nothing has been sort of done as yet but obviously his focus was going to be elsewhere tonight, so we felt it best to let him go and have discussions and leave him out of the game.”

Meanwhile, new recruits Juan Castillo and Nile John are not involved as they continue to settle into things at Sparrows Lane.

“Obviously they are new to the group and they’ve only trained a couple of times with the full squad,” explained the boss. “Neither of them have played a lot of games recently so we have to build them up in training and then look at ways that we can integrate them. Obviously I’ve got a big squad and I can only choose 18 for any given game as well, so the nature of it is that a few are always going to miss out.”

Charlton: MacGillivray; Clare, Inniss (c), Famewo; Matthews, Gilbey, Dobson, Morgan, Blackett-Taylor; Aneke, Washington

Subs: Henderson, Pearce, Purrington, Watson, Lee, Jaiyesimi, Leko
