U18S PDL CUP REPORT | Charlton 2 Barnsley 0

Charlton’s U18s secured their place in the semi-finals of the Professional Development League Cup with a 2-0 victory over Barnsley at Sparrows Lane on Saturday.

Second-half strikes from Toby Bower (pictured) and Mack Reilly in wet and windy conditions sealed the young Addicks’ passage through to the last four where they will take on one of Wigan Athletic, Coventry City or Ipswich Town.

After the two sides played out a stalemate in the first 45, the hosts breathed life into the encounter by taking the lead in the 65th minute courtesy of a penalty.

Ryan Huke was fouled in the box, leaving Bower to step up to the spot and his left foot once again did the talking as he placed his shot low and down the middle to put his side in front.

And with 16 minutes remaining, Reilly increased the cushion, scoring the all-important second to make safe their passage to the last four of the competition.

Substitute Henry Rylah delivered the ball on a plate with a low ball from the right, which Reilly duly met at the far post to turn it in.
