U23S REPORT | Charlton 6 Cardiff City 1

Charlton’s U23s put on a show at The Valley on Tuesday afternoon as they came from behind to put six past Cardiff City.

The Addicks’ U18 contingent starred again as Daniel Kanu hit a hat-trick, while Karoy Anderson and Miles Leaburn were all on the scoresheet after Ryan Viggars had levelled matters for the hosts.

Isaac Jeffries put the Bluebirds ahead with a deflected effort after just six minutes, but Viggars struck back with a good finish inside the near post on 23 minutes.

The floodgates opened from there with Kanu grabbing his first of the afternoon 11 minutes before the break. Viggars turned provider, laying the ball on a plate for his fellow forward to place home his finish from 10 yards.

It took just four minutes of second-half action before Charlton got their third and they did it in some style. Terrell Agyemang teed up Anderson who unleashed an unstoppable first-time effort from 20 yards which nestled in the top right-hand corner.

On 66 minutes, Kanu secured his brace – stretching to turn in Euan Williams’ centre to make it 4-1 and 13 minutes later he had his hat-trick. Leaburn provided the assist, crossing from the right for Kanu to place the ball home on the bounce for his 39th goal of a hugely-prolific season.

And in injury-time, there was time for Leaburn to get on the scoresheet himself. Kanu’s initial shot was saved by the goalkeeper but Leaburn was on hand to nod home the rebound to complete the rout.
