WOMEN | Addicks sign goalkeeper Sian Rogers

Welcome, Sian Rogers

Charlton Athletic are delighted to announce the signing of goalkeeper Sian Rogers on a season-long loan from Barclays Women's Super League outfit Aston Villa.

The 24-year-old joined the Villans in 2017 and has since earned over 60 appearances for the West Midlands club.

The shot-stopper was scouted by Wolverhampton Wanderers' Centre of Excellence as a youngster and also enjoyed spells at both Birmingham City and Arsenal prior to moving to Villa.

A former England youth international, Rogers was involved with the England setup from the age of 13 as she starred for the young Lionesses across several age groups.

In the 2019/20 season, the Wolverhampton-born keeper collected the Golden Glove award as she helped guide Aston Villa to the FA Women’s Championship title, keeping five clean sheets in 13 matches.

Rogers shared her excitement at joining the Addicks this season during her first interview with the club. She said: "I am so excited just to get going and to get to know the girls as quickly as possible, but I also want to challenge myself and help push this club further.

"What the fans can expect to see is for me to try and be as consistent as possible. The Championship is going to challenge me this season and I am really looking forward to it.

“I am looking to take myself out of my comfort zone. I have been at Aston Villa now for five years and when this opportunity came up it was something I had to take with both hands, I am looking forward to the challenge of the Championship this season.”

Head Coach Karen Hills also shared her delight: "I am thrilled that Sian has signed for the club on a season-long loan. Having already won the Golden Glove and been part of a promotion-winning side is extremely impressive to see, and this is the exact sort of winning mentality we are looking to have here at Charlton."
