Player Biography

Jack Payne penned a two-year deal with Charlton in July 2022 to become the club's sixth summer signing.

The London-born attacking midfielder began his professional career with Southend United, where he netted 17 goals across 88 games in League One in League Two. Indeed, Payne swept the board at the Shrimpers' Player of the Year awards in the 2015/16 season to earn a move to then-Championship side Huddersfield Town.

Payne made 28 appearances for Huddersfield in his debut campaign as the Terriers earned promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs.

The playmaker spent the first half of the 2017/18 season on loan with Oxford United, before joining fellow League One side Blackburn Rovers for the remainder of the campaign in January. While at Ewood Park, he earned his third career promotion and completed the EFL set as Rovers returned to the second tier.

Another League One loan followed during 2018/19, this time with Bradford City where Payne bagged nine goals.

He joined Lincoln City in July 2019 following the expiry of his contract at Huddersfield. After one season with the Imps, Payne joined Swindon Town.

Having made 47 appearances in his first campaign at the County Ground, Payne thrived in his second season with the Robins, scoring 13 goals and registering six assists.

In August 2023, he moved to League Two side MK Dons on a season-long loan.
