Charlton Upbeat Betsy featured in the bright lights of Times Square on Saturday, September 6th, as part of the annual National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) Times Square Video Presentation. The one-hour video of 500+ photographs included children, teenagers and adults with Down syndrome from all 50 US states and 11 countries. These collective images highlighted individuals with Down syndrome in the most visible way – on two screens in the heart of Times Square.
The photo of Betsy was selected from more than 2,600 entries in the NDSS worldwide call for photos, and her picture was shown on two Jumbotron screens thanks to the support of ClearChannel Outdoor.
Betsy’s mum said: “We were so proud to see Betsy’s cheeky smile beaming out in Times Square for all to see! It was so emotional and a real pinch-me moment for all of us. She has always been a little star in our eyes but this was something very few people ever get to experience!
“It was an incredible event put on by the NDSS, celebrating the community not only in the USA, but also people like us who had travelled from all over the world to be there. The event was hosted by many inspiring adults with Down syndrome who were performing Zumba, promoting books they’ve written, singing the national anthem and more!
“We will forever be Betsy’s biggest fans and we’re beyond proud of her for this incredible achievement.”
