Wycombe Wanderers 0 Charlton 0
It will be all to play for at The Valley on Thursday after a cagey 0-0 battle between the Addicks and Wycombe Wanderers in the first leg of the Sky Bet League One play-off semi-finals at Adams Park.
Wycombe stopper Will Norris made two, good late saves to keep the scores level in a game where chances were scarce.
Nathan Jones made three changes to his line-up for the game with Will Mannion, Lloyd Jones and Luke Berry returning to the starting XI.
The first half was played with play-off intensity but was lacking on chances. Mannion did enough to keep out a powerful strike from Dan Udoh, from the edge of the area six minutes into the game, while Fred Onyedinma headed a difficult chance over the crossbar.
For the Addicks Tyreece Campbell looked most dangerous and saw a shot blocked, cutting in from the left wing, while the best opportunities Charlton had to put the ball into the penalty area came from Josh Edwards’ long throws.
The start of the second half didn’t see much more goalmouth action. Luke Berry saw his shot well blocked by Caleb Taylor and Matty Godden got in behind the Wycombe defence but his left-footed shot was straight at Wycombe stopper Will Norris, who batted the ball away.
Wycombe’s best half-chance came when Taylor directed a header, from a corner, goalwards, but Godden was on hand to head to safety.
It was in the final few minutes that the Addicks really were able to gain momentum. Norris made, what was then, the best save of the game with two minutes remaining keeping out Matty Godden’s smart volley. From the resulting corner he made an even better reaction save to deny Greg Docherty from close range.
The tie now moves to The Valley where Charlton will be hoping to progress under the lights in front of a sold out home support.
