Charlton's U21s were on the wrong side of a stoppage-time goal on Tuesday afternoon, losing 1-0 to AFC Bournemouth as Canford Park Arena.

The hosts came close to opening the scoring on 18 minutes. Noa Boutin showed excellent determination to drive down the left wing and squaring for Daniel Adu-Adjei, who was unable to connect well with the ball and fired wide from close range.

Prince Adegoke was called into action shortly after as Finn Tonks controlled the ball well out on the right wing and honed in on goal, but his strike was steered wide by the stopper.

The young Addicks came close to grabbing the opener afrwe 27 minutes through Henry Rylah. A well-worked corner routine saw Matt Dench send a low cross towards the forward on the edge of the box, who fired over the Bournemouth goal.

Chris Lock's side had another fantastic opportunity to take the lead on the stroke of half-time. Another great ball into the box from Dench found Richard Chin inside the six-yard box, but the wing-back’s strike drifted wide of the post.

Moments later, Cameron Plain made an outstanding save to deny Dench at the far post.

Charlton claimed the first clear-cut opportunity of the second half as Tolu Ladapo was slipped through on goal, however the substitute rifled wide.

Bournemouth rattled the woodwork eight minutes later. Adu-Adjei received the ball over the top of the Charlton defence and thundered an effort against the near post.

With 10 minutes remaining, the hosts thought they had broken the deadlock through Balraj Landa. The forward received the ball on the penalty spot and fired towards goal. Adegoke was beaten, but Laqeretabua was there to make a heroic goalline clearance.

Bournemouth took the lead In the dying embers. A free-kick swung in and onto the head of Adu-Adjei, who headed home to put the hosts ahead at the very death.
