Charlton's U21s booked their place in the second round of the London Senior Cup with an 3-2 triumph at Cockfosters on Wednesday night.

A second-half brace from Patrick Casey put the young Addicks ahead at Chalk Lane before Jacob Roddy added a third 10 minutes from time.

It was a nightmare start as Charlton began their defence of the London Senior Cup with the hosts taking the lead inside three minutes. Captain Chris Griffin was the scorer, guiding a low driven cross home from close range.

The first half proved to be an end-to-end affair with both sides enjoying a number of chances, though neither side could convert.

Moments before the hour-mark, the young Addicks drew level through the prolific Casey. Left-back Roddy delivered an inswinging cross into the box for the forward, who steered his header into the corner of the net.

Just seven minutes later, Casey bagged his and Charlton's second. Superb play from Henry Rylah saw the winger fire a cross in towards Casey, who finished with a sensational diving header.

Roddy, captain on the night, added number three with 10 minutes remaining. The full-back showed a delightful bit of skill to tap the ball through a defender's legs and coolly fire into the far corner.

Cockfosters set up a nervy finish as George Lutarya scored two minutes from time, but the young Addicks saw out the tie professionally to set up a date with Welling United at Park View Road in round two.

The U21s are next in action on Monday, November 27th, when they welcome Cardiff City to Princes Park in Professional Development League 2 - South action (KO 2pm GMT).
