Academy add George Hardy to goalkeeping ranks

Charlton Athletic have bolstered their academy goalkeeping ranks with the signing of 18-year-old George Hardy.

Born in Nottingham, the stopper began his youth career at Notts County and Rotherham United before joining Premier League outfit Wolverhampton Wanderers for an undisclosed fee in March 2023.

Upon putting pen to paper with the Addicks, Hardy said: "I’m delighted to be here. It’s a massive club and I can’t wait for the opportunity to play in front of the supporters.

"I’ve loved every minute so far. The conversations were nothing but positive and the club has massive ambitions, so I’m looking forward to the future."

Academy Manager Tom Pell added: "George is a promising young goalkeeper identified by Alistair Clarke, our Head of Emerging Talent, and Vic Bettinelli, our Head of Academy Goalkeeping.

"We’ve looked at a number of young goalkeepers this summer and George stood out pretty early on in his trial period as we liked his character and his ability, and he showed the attributes and potential we look for in our young goalkeepers.

"We all wish him all the very best during his time here and would like to welcome him and his family to the club on behalf of the academy."

Charlton fans can support the academy by signing up to the Valley Gold scheme. Valley Gold enables fans to support the club’s academy in unearthing the talents of tomorrow, as well as giving them the chance to win cash prizes.
