Addicks break club record for clean sheets

'

Charlton Athletic’s 4-0 victory over Wycombe Wanderers on Easter Monday not only kept their top two hopes alive, it also broke a club record.

Nathan Jones’ side have now kept 23 clean sheets in all competitions this season, which beats the 22 recorded in 1980/81, 1997/98 and 2011/12.

The result also saw the Addicks equal a club record 20 league clean sheets, which was also achieved in those three aforementioned seasons.

Speaking after Monday’s win, Nathan Jones said: "That’s 20 clean sheets in the league now, which is a phenomenal effort. I’m really proud of that aspect because we wanted to get that right.

"We came here last year and Charlton had kept three [clean sheets] in 35 or 36 games. We only kept two in the final 16 games, which was good enough to get us to the position we finished last year, but I knew it wasn’t going to be good enough to get us where we want to be this season.

"We had to first of all sort that out, which we did and we have. Then every single week is an evolution process in terms of getting better in possession, scoring more goals, being more clinical, being more confident, being more accomplished with the ball and we’re a work in progress. We’re just over a year in and I think we’re in a good place."
