Blackpool 2 Charlton 2
The Addicks secured a point on the road in a thrilling 2-2 draw with Blackpool but will have felt they could have got more from the game.
Charlton struck immediately after half-time through the in-form Matty Godden and an Oliver Casey own goal but Blackpool pulled two goals back, to set-up an exciting stoppage time where either side could have won it.
The result means the Addicks have lost just one league game in the last 11 and leaves Nathan Jones' side a place outside the playoffs, level on points with sixth-placed Leyton Orient.
Nathan Jones opted for an unchanged side from the team that beat Bristol Rovers at The Valley on Tuesday.
In a tight but fast-paced first half the Addicks played some nice football but chances were limited with Luke Berry’s early shot from range the closest Charlton came to giving Blackpool goalkeeper Harry Tyrer a scare.
At the other end Ashley Maynard-Brewer stood up well to keep out CJ Hamilton’s left-footed effort and Elkan Baggott headed just wide of goal.
The second half began at a frantic pace and Baggott could have given his team the lead but just missed the target after connecting with a devilish cross from former Addick Albie Morgan.
Godden put Charlton in front with a goal that was very similar to his opener on Tuesday. Again it was Thierry Small’s good work down the right that created the opportunity. His cross was cleared to Greg Docherty who saw a well-hit shot blocked into the path of Luke Berry. The midfielder’s shot across goal was guided in by Godden for his 11th of the season.
Charlton doubled their lead two minutes later with Tyreece Campbell beating his defender to the byline and putting in a low cross which hit Blackpool defender Casey and bounced into the net.
Substitute Sam Silvera pulled a goal back with 16 minutes to go, curling in a right-footed shot from just outside the penalty area.
Another substitute Niall Ennis marked his debut with the equalier three minutes from time, calmly finding the net after Tom Bloxham’s strike had rebounded to him off the crossbar.
Both teams chased three points, with the home side having a big shout for a penalty when they felt Kayne Ramsay handballed, while Thierry Small, cutting inside, saw his low shot well blocked.
The Addicks head back to London with a point and have a free week to prepare themselves for the visit of Stevenage to The Valley on Saturday.
