Addicks share the spoils with Ipswich Town

-

Charlton Women played out a goalless stalemate with Ipswich Town at The Valley on Sunday afternoon.

In a game of very few chances, neither side could break the deadlock in a closely-fought contest in SE7, although it was the Addicks who arguably enjoyed the better of the openings.

Indeed, the best chance of the game ended up being the first with just four minutes on the clock when Amelie Thestrup was played into the box to find herself with just the goalkeeper to beat. But  the Danish forward could only fire inches wide of the left-hand upright.

Mia Ross saw an effort from distance caught by visiting stopper Natalia Negri, while Elisha N’Dow fired just over the crossbar with a well-struck shot from the edge of the box as the hosts plugged away by producing half-chances.

And before the break, Emma Bissell was denied by Negri in the box following great work down the right from Charlotte Newsham to set up Charlton’s number nine.

The second half proved to be even more cagey with efforts on goal coming at a premium.

Indeed, only a pair of Ipswich shots from distance which cleared the frame of the goal, leaving Sophie Whitehouse unbothered, were the only efforts to report as the two sides cancelled each other out in SE7.

Nevertheless, it’s another valuable point on the board for Karen Hills’ side who keep their unbeaten start to the season intact. They will now prepare for a Subway Women’s League Cup clash at The Valley against West Ham United on Wednesday evening.
