Tanto Olaofe was delighted to open his Charlton account with a dramatic late winner as the Addicks claimed a superb 1-0 victory at Sheffield United on Saturday.
The 25-year-old striker struck in stoppage time at Bramall Lane, finishing off a slick team move to send the near 2,000 travelling Charlton supporters into raptures.
Reflecting on his first goal for the club, Olaofe said: âWe felt we had momentum. At half-time we spoke about the game changers coming on and making an impact, and thatâs exactly what happened. Miles [Leaburn] flicked it on, Harvey [Knibbs] was involved, and then James [Bree] put a brilliant ball across. I was just in the right place at the right time and thankfully I put it away.
"Thereâs no better feeling than scoring, especially in front of our fans. Iâm just glad to get the win, glad to get the three points, and glad to help the team with a clean sheet as well.â
The goal sparked jubilant scenes, with players, substitutes and supporters all celebrating together.
âYou saw everyone from the bench rush over,â Olaofe smiled. âThat shows the togetherness weâve got. Itâs more than just scoring a goal, itâs about teammates being happy for each other, everyone celebrating together and sharing it with the fans.â
Olaofe, who came off the bench in the second half, was full of praise for the collective effort on a difficult afternoon in South Yorkshire.
âWe knew it would be a tough game," he explained. "Chris Wilderâs first game back, they were desperate for a reaction, and we hadnât won in five ourselves. But everyone really fought for each other. At the end you saw players sliding into tackles, throwing themselves in. It was a great team performance.â
Nearly 2,000 Charlton supporters made the trip to Bramall Lane despite the heavy rain and travel disruption, and Olaofe was quick to recognise their role in the victory.
He said: âThe fans were brilliant. To travel all the way up from London in that weather, they were crucial for us. Hopefully they enjoyed the journey home. We want to give them more wins like this, especially away from home.â
