Charlton Legends to play at Bromley on Sunday

Charlton legends v Bromley

This Sunday a team of Charlton Legends will travel to Hayes Lane as they take on a Bromley Legends team with kick-off scheduled for 1pm.

Bromley Head of Marketing and Communications and CharltonTV presenter Charlotte Richardson spoke ahead of Sunday’s Legends game, previewing what supporters can expect on the day.

She said: “The game is the first of its kind at Bromley, we put together a team of Bromley Legends managed by our current Club Ambassador and former Manager, George Wakeling. It includes players that helped the team get promoted from Non-League into the National League. We wanted to find a team of other Legends and who better to go to than a local team, Charlton, who we have always had a really good relationship with, with lots of synergy between the two supporter bases. We are asking supporters to donate £5 to our Community Trust, hopefully raising some money, have a drink together and then I am hosting the Q&A afterwards so we can hear some of the stories and go down memory lane."

The Charlton Legends team will feature the likes of: Kevin Lisbie, John Fortune, Johnnie Jackson, Jamal Campbell-Ryce, Chris Perry, Michael Turner, Lawrie Wilson, Chris Dickson, Kevin James, Kyel Reid and more!

Charlotte continued: “I think quite a lot of Charlton fans will know about Bromley almost like their adopted second team, a non-league side. Hayes Lane has actually transformed in recent years, we have got an amazing bar and kitchen called ‘Broomfields’. Where people can come and have a drink, meet the players, have a chat with them, hear stories as well, knowing that the ticket price at entry not only gets them into the Legends game but they can also watch the Women’s team in the afternoon if they wanted to.

"It helps the community trust which is coming up to its first birthday, carry on doing work in Bromley, the Community Trust does so many things a bit like Charlton’s but a lot younger. It does initiatives from soccer-schools to campaigns to help the elderly. This is a fundraising initiative as we go into it in the second year, to help it to grow and carry on doing what it is doing."

After the Legends game has concluded, Bromley Women will face Herne Bay, supporters that purchase a ticket for the legends game will receive free entry into the women’s fixture at Hayes Lane.

“Other than the Q&A afterwards, the bar will be open to supporters so they can have a drink and some food, our Women’s team is playing at 3pm, Bromley Women got promoted last season and supporters can stay around and watch that if they want to at 3pm. We will also have the screens on playing the Sky Sports Super Sunday so supporters are welcome to stay well into the evening.

When asked what team she will be supporting on Sunday, Charlotte was unable to side with either of the teams.

She said: “You can’t ask me that! Keep it as a draw but the ultimate winner is the Community Trust which I will be very happy about.

"It is going to be a really nice day, from a Charlton perspective, the chance to see some old faces and support a non-league club as well. Hopefully the boys get the three points on the Saturday and people can come and have a fun day on the Sunday."
