Coventry: "Attacking the Covered End gives us a boost"

Conor Coventry expects a tough test on Saturday, as the Addicks host Birmingham City at The Valley in the Sky Bet Championship (KO 3pm GMT).

The Addicks were left rueing missed chances following a disappointing 1-0 defeat at home to Wrexham last time out.

"Last week, it was a tough game - every game in this league is tough," explained the midfielder. "We played some good stuff and we had some chances, and we should have taken them and taken three points from the game really.

"They [Wrexham] are a good side, and they know how to win, but we were a bit unlucky and we take a lot of positives from it. We have to take that same confidence that we had in our play to control the ball as much as possible, and create those chances. We need to keep getting in those positions to create chances, and we're working on it and are trying to sharpen those tools."

The 25-year-old recently made his 100th appearances for the Addicks after joining the club from West Ham United in January 2024.

"I was buzzing, I've loved it since I've come in here," said the Republic of Ireland international. "A lot has changed and we're in a better place now than when I first came in. I've loved my time here and long may it continue. They're a great group of lads and staff to work with.

"I've enjoyed this season. It's the first time I've had a full season in the Championship at my club as before I had been on loan. We've had ups and downs, obviously we had a great start and we've had some tougher times since then. We've grown a lot as individuals, and also as a group."

Asked what he expects from Chris Davies' Blues this weekend, Coventry said: "We played Birmingham three times last year including the cup and we know the quality they've got and the kind of team they are. They won the league last year, and they were a yardstick for everyone to measure themselves off. It's a challenge to go against them - they're always tough games, but enjoyable ones and I'm looking forward to it.

"We have a real strong home record from the last few years. I love playing at The Valley and I know the team does too. We feel confident with all of our fans there and attacking the Covered End definitely does give us a boost."
