PREVIEW | Ipswich Town vs Charlton

Charlton

Karen Hills’ side will travel to the AGL Arena on Sunday for their opening fixture of 2024. The Addicks entered the winter break off an impressive eight-match unbeaten run, including the most recent Cup run-out against Bournemouth which saw six goals netted against the Cherries.

Charlton will be looking to replicate the success found across the Championship this season, the Addicks currently sit second with only goal difference separating themselves and Birmingham City on top.

New signings Melisa Filis and Gracie Pearse are expected to be available to make their debuts if selected, while Ella Rutherford, who put pen to paper on a new contract this week, could make her return.

Ipswich Town

Ipswich Town’s 3-0 victory over Championship side Lewes in December secured progression to the Cup’s fourth round, after goals from Kyra Robertson, Lenna Gunning-Williams, and Ruby Doe.

Currently fourth in the FA WNL Southern Premier Division, hosts Town will be looking for a strong start to the year after their win against Lewes marked the side’s first competitive victory against a team from either of the top-two tiers.

Head-to-head

Sunday’s meeting will be the first in six years for the Addicks and Town, with their previous clash in 2018 also occurring as part of the FA Cup.

With two goals apiece at halftime, the second-round match-up resulted in a 5-2 victory for visitors Charlton, after three goals in extra time saw the Addicks over the line.
